Memoirs of an Arabian Princess from Zanzibar
Join us on Friday, November 8, 2024 at the Watertown Library beginning at 1:00pm when we welcome Rita Parisi of Waterfall Productions and her presentation of “Memoirs of an Arabian Princess from Zanzibar”.
Salamah bint Said, Princess of Zanzibar, the sultan of Zanzibar’s youngest daughter, eloped with German trader Rudolph Reute changing her name to Emily. While living in exile, she wrote a fascinating memoir for her children. Waterfall Productions has adapted the 1886 autobiography into a theatrical presentation.
This one woman show returns you to an era when Zanzibar was ruled by sultans and has you entering a vanished world of harams, slave trading and court intrigues. You will "meet" the former princess and learn about her life in Zanzibar and Germany, from childhood to being a young widow with small children.
Rita Parisi has been entertaining audiences for over 25 years in the New England area. In 2002, she founded Waterfall Productions to create shows that highlight her passion for theatre, literature and costuming; these shows have been performed all over New England, New Jersey, New York and Florida. She is a proud member of the largest acting union in the country: SAG/AFTRA.
