Watertown Foundation Centennial Celebration
The Watertown Foundation is celebrating 100 years by bringing six Seward Johnson Sculptures to town!!!
Founded in October 1925, the Watertown Foundation is celebrating their Centennial in 2025 by hosting an Art Experience in Watertown and Oakville for all ages to enjoy from August to October 2025. This outdoor exhibit will feature six works from world-renowned sculptor Seward Johnson. Each life-size bronze sculpture is from his “Icons Revisited” or “Celebrating the Familiar” collections and spotlights a moment of historical significance or calls attention to the simple pleasures of our daily lives.
The public is invited to join the festivities beginning on Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 10am-1pm at the Watertown Library, 470 Main Street, for free Kick-Off activities including maps, contest flyers, refreshments and entertainment. Parking is available via the Academy Hill entrance to the Library parking lot, in the Town Hall parking lot, or the new municipal Main Street parking lot. An unveiling of the three downtown statues will begin at 10:15am.
Visitors can also experience statues by the War Memorials located near the intersection of Rt 63 and Rt. 6 across from the Gazebo, at the Oakville Green, and in Veterans’ Memorial Park. Look for balloons at each location and be sure to also visit our friends from the Taft School who will be providing information and refreshments at Walker Hall, 50 Deforest Street.
All sculptures will remain in place through late October.
Printed maps and contest flyers will be offered during open hours at the Watertown Library, Oakville Branch, Watertown History Museum, and Watertown Parks & Recreation Office in Town Hall after July 30th or available to download at watertownfoundation.com. Also check the foundation website for updated events and save the date for our 100th Annual Meeting and Centennial Celebration on October 5, 2025.
The exhibition is on loan from The Seward Johnson Atelier and community members of all ages are invited to visit and participate in the free activities planned throughout August, September, and late October.
